If your friend is Superman, he’ll find that you on Argon 18’s Krypton turns him into a mere mortal. This is a frame that has refined manners, and can be a full-on race bike for smooth roads, rough roads, and an all-day ride for people who merely like to tick away the miles.
This is a new iteration of the Krypton frame for Argon 18. It is lighter, stiffer where it counts, and more comfortable. They’ve advanced their shaping a good bit, and that’s where much of the magic comes in. The straight-blade fork is light, stiff, and allows for plenty of clearance for tires up to 28mm in width. The oversized head tube hides a 1 1/8” to 1 ¼” steerer, though the upper race is still 1 ¼” on the outside to provide greater stiffness. The top of the head tube utilizes Argon 18’s 3D fit system you’ll find on their other carbon road offerings. You customize the head tube height, by either not using the system for zero stack, using the system to add 15mm or 25mm of stack. The system is essentially extending the upper cup of the headset by those distances, and by so doing, stiffening up the system compared to using narrow 1 1/8” stack spacers. By moving out the upper headset race, stiffness and durability is improved.
Going rearward, the frame is divided in half thanks to Argon 18’s Horizontal Dual System. The lower half, the downtube, chainstays, BB86 bottom bracket juncture are built for lateral rigidity. The upper half, the top tube, seat stays, and upper seat tube, along with the 27.2mm round seatpost, are built for compliance. In terms of the ride, the geometry tends toward stability, thanks to the 7cm bottom bracket drop, which means it not only rides a straight line easily, but also carves turns with confidence.
The versatility means you’re never at a loss when conditions change. One bike for all roads is simple and straightforward, and will leave you wondering why others need to be so specific in their bike choices.
The frame is designed with internal cable routing in mind. The brake cable runs inside the top tube, while the derailleur cables, be they electronic or mechanical, run inside the downtube. If you go for electrics, the Di2 battery fits in the seatpost. All stops and plugs are included. And the post itself, thanks to being round, is reversible, with a +/- 15mm setback.
The Argon 18 Krypton gives you, no matter how Jimmy Olsen you might feel, superpowers.
